I never thought I would start something like this. Mainly because I have moments where I am not entirely confident in my writing and the ability to convey a point through text. I remember when I was a student at Middlebury College’s School of the Environment, in the summer of 2017. I had a professor who kept saying I wrote run-on sentences. It was pretty wild because I couldn’t notice it! No matter how much I tried, I just simply could not see what he was seeing. I was, and still am, that student that just wrote what came to mind. I wasn’t a good editor of my writing, and asking others to edit my assignments just wasn’t entirely an option then. People are busy! also, who wanted to read white men, about the concept of pristine wilderness?
Anyway, all that to say, sometimes I “suck” at writing, and sometimes I don’t. Enough of my sob story about my insecurity with writing though, this is not what this is meant for! What I do hope to accomplish with this newsletter is, to use this space to speak on things that are important to me, I otherwise wouldn’t do at the moment, as a Master’s student. I am lucky to be doing my thesis on food, gender, place, culture, and storytelling. Still working on a title, but getting somewhere, don’t worry! My motivation comes and goes, I won’t lie, but I am grateful to have an awesome thesis chair who keeps me motivated and excited. Back to the purpose though, you will be reading about food, school, my love for being Puerto Rican, music, and some recipes that I come up with randomly. I currently use Instagram and Twitter as something similar but felt limited in characters.
So I welcome you to my newsletter/thought dump/journal. I hope this will make your days a little brighter!
